4730: Nursing Care End of Life

Prerequisites: NURSE 3060, NURSE 3070. This course focuses on the nursing care of terminally ill patients and their families. Topics explored will include the impact of personal values and beliefs about death, physiology of end stage disease processes, symptom assessment and management, psychosocial and spiritual support, consideration in special patient populations, societal issues and trends in end of life care, ethical considerations in caring for the dying patient, grief and bereavement processes, and the role nursing in end of life care across settings.
