4200: Monetary Theory and Policy
Prerequisites: ECON 3001. This course examines how monetary policy has affected the economy in the past and how it can improve economic performance in the future. Topics include the definition of inflation, inflation policy, inflation rate targeting, the Bretton Woods gold standard, monetary regimes with metallic standards, the effect of money on oil and gold prices, the Phillips curve and its use in monetary and macroeconomics, and the origin of central banks and bank insurance policy. Students may not receive credit for both ECON 4200 and ECON 5200.
